I Smell a Rat (Snake)

We found a snake in the church foyer this afternoon. Just a baby, it wasn't the usual ringneck or garter snake… in fact, I'm not sure what species it was exactly.





My best guess is a Great Plains Rat Snake. Are there any herpetology experts out there to set me straight?

I threw the little guy in the weeds, told him to eat lots of pests but not to come back inside. I think he understood.
