Hollywood Politics

Do you want to understand why Hollywood Leftists don't understand?

Here's a profound examination of Hollywood's misguided interpretation of politics and history, written by a leading historian, Victor Davis Hanson. Hanson is a professor of the Classics and is an author of an impressive array of history books, some of which I've actually read (I highly recommend Ripples of Battle).

I find it interesting that so many actors are also leftists, especially the rich and successful ones. They are not oppressed. They are not held back. Quite the opposite, they're elite and have benefitted greatly from our democratic free market system. So why on earth do so many of them lean left? [Only 21% of voters identify themselves as liberal, but I'd guess Hollywood is something like 90% or better.] And why are the few actors who lean right, usually not very good actors? Is there significance here?

Do people who make a significant contribution to the world see it differently than those who pretend to be significant? Does a firefighter or a soldier understand something that an actor, who only pretends to be brave and heroic, just can't get?

This may actually be related to the old maxim, "those who can do, those who can't teach." I point it out because a large percentage of teachers also run left of center politically speaking [48% of teachers in one poll identified themselves as liberal, 18% conservative]. Teachers talk about things they've studied but not necessarily done themselves. Does this skew their worldview? And the conservative teachers I know are often folks who have had other careers and other options but choose to teach for the sake of the kids. Hmmm.

Maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree, but it is interesting.

You are barking up the wrong tree!! Besides when it really comes down to it WHO CARES!!! It probably is because most actors were home-schooled and just don't get it.

Huh?

It may be of supreme value to know whether or not your opinions determine who you are or vice versa.

That would be very important, whether you're a theologian or a trash man. And whether you "have to" be either one.

By the way,
1. I don't think most actors or teachers were home schooled. It's kind of rare.
2. And I don't think the political persuasion of most home schoolers would be very similar to either of those groups (strongly left-leaning, I mean).
3. I don't think home schooling usually leads to political or philosophical ignorance but rather the opposite. Many believe that home schooling creates non-conformists; you decide if that's good or bad.

FASCINATING article by Mr. Hanson!! I couldn't agree more with what he had to say! He seems to really be in touch with why Hollywood is so far from center. I believe he is expressing what most of everyone else on the outside feels about actors and their anti-American sentiments. Everyone should read that article.

Amazing, when I was in college and was dating a girl who majored in Theatre at MSSU, how many of the people in that department were over the edge and unreasonably accepting of everything and everyone, regardless of consequences. What I'm refering to is their extremism with humanity and rights. They were so outrageously in favor of human rights that they threw out circumstances and consequences. For example: If a person commits a crime, they would argue for that person and their rights beyond what was reasonable. I understand that someone who commits a crime is still a human and deserves certain basic things, but doesn't committing a crime mean that you forfeited certain rights, like freedom, as a consequence for your actions in our civil government? There was a white man, 19 years old, who killed a black citizen who was walking down a sidewalk minding his own business, because he was black-- a hate crime. And today as he is in prison awaiting his sentencing (probably a life sentence in his case) he requested that he be allowed to marry his 23 year old fiancee before he's put away for good. ...He murdered another human being, just because of their skin color... When he made that decision, he forfeited his rights to do the things that other citizens can do freely. Is that not just common sense?

Hollywood seem to be so zealous about Jihadists being human beings, that they seem to forget that these humans are killing other humans just because they don't believe the same way. Hollywood seems intent to make America out to be the bad guy, when all we want is to do everything in our power to stop the atrocities from occurring all over the world, and start spreading democracy where ALL citizens, men and women and every race alike, can have equal rights. They're slandering the ones fighting to protect their freedom to make a buck in this capitalistic society! Doesn't that sound like an blindly egotistical attitude?! Who are the ones REALLY fighting for human rights here?

Dustin...I think you are close but not right. I feel Hollywood is saying please stay out of other people's business. Plus, I believe if this was happening in Serbia then this wouldn't be such a big deal. It is the fact that OIL "may" be involved that is keeping heavy left-wingers aware of the situation. Lets face it OIL is definitely part of the reason we are still there pushing democracy. If our govt. would have stayed in the Middle East the last time we were their maybe we wouldn't be doing this again.
