Random Thoughts 5/11/11

  • So the Sacramento Kings will stay in Sacramento at least one more season.  And if they move, they'll probably go to Anaheim, because the Los Angeles area definitely needs three teams.  But there's still a sliver of a chance that the Kings would make their way back to Kansas City.  It may not be likely, but it's possible.
  • Get a free DVD rental from a Blockbuster Express kiosk at QuikTrip by entering the promo code "QUIKTRIP".  This deal expires at the end of June.
  • Jeff Withey, the 7-footer for the Jayhawks, has put on 12 pounds in the weight room in the last six weeks, going from 218 to 230.  This is nothing but good news for a Kansas team that might be a bit thin in the middle next season.
  • Microsoft just bought Skype for $8.5 billion and I'm not surprised.  I've used Windows and I've used Skype; I can't believe that Microsoft didn't already own them.
  • We had a church camp board meeting at our church in Kansas City last night.  Normally, it takes us an hour and a half to drive to camp but tonight it was five minutes.  Ah, that was nice, especially while the gas prices are high.  Of course, almost everybody else had to drive hour or more to get here…
  • I read Ayn Rand's Anthem recently and more than most books, the premise is really stuck in my head: a backward communist state where it's illegal to say the words "I" or "me."  The more you think about it the more haunting it is.  Currently I'm reading Herman Melville's Bartleby, the Scrivener, among the four or five other books that I'm always chipping away at.
