Kansas Billionaires

The World's Billionaires list according to Forbe's includes some Kansans. Actually, I wasn't sure if these folks are Kansans or if they just live here but if you had a billion dollars why would you live in Kansas?

Anyway, here are the ones I found at a glance. I'm still searching for phone numbers…

[World rank, name, home, age, $, source]
33. (tied) Charles Koch, Wichita, 70, $12, oil, commodities
33. (tied) David Koch, Wichita, 65, $12, oil, commodities
428. Donald Hall, Mission Hills, 77, $1.8, Hallmark
486. Min Kao, Mission Hills, 57, $1.6, Garmin GPS receivers
606. Phillip Ruffin, Wichita, 70, $1.3, casinos, real estate
698. Gary Burrell, Stilwell, 68, $1.1, Garmin GPS receivers

[Shout out to Mindy for the help. Thanks!]

If Min Kao is a billionaire, I'm surprised that Gary Burrell isn't as well. Gary and Min, hence the name Garmin are the co-founders of Garmin, so it surprises me that one of them would be on there and not the other one. Who knows, maybe Gary lives in another state...okay, so I had to go and check Jared, and I found on the forbes website the actual list of the Kansas Billionaires, and here it is...
33 Charles Koch United States 70 12.0 United States
33 David Koch United States 65 12.0 United States
428 Donald Hall United States 77 1.8 United States
486 Min Kao United States 57 1.6 United States
606 Phillip Ruffin United States 70 1.3 United States
698 Gary Burrell United States 68 1.1 United States

Gary is on there, as suspected! LOL! Funny that he's 212 spots behind Min Kao. LOL!

Thanks Mindy, my list only went up to about 500, and I didn't check Forbes' site. I wonder if there aren't other billionaires that were born in Kansas but moved away?

It's interesting.

J-Rod,
You should check out some of the stuff Garmin is putting in airplanes now, for instance the Garmin G-1000 Flat panel display that is in the Kodiak that you talked of earlier. Cessna, Mooney, and Beechcraft and a handfull of others are using it. It will once again revolutionize our work. Esp. since we will have XM satelite weather and radio in parts of the world where weather data and fm Radio doesnt even exist. From talking with the Avionics guys in Alamosa, who deal a lot with Garmin, Min and Gary are two of the most down two earth guys, nice as can be. They started the company when the time was ripe for the GPS revolution, and now look at them...WOW!

And from what I've heard Gary B. is a pretty devout Christian, in fact he almost didn't start Garmin at all because he was so involved in his church.

Oh, and up here, we call Jarod Anderson "Jay-rod" and they just call me Jared (or "hey you"). To help distinguish between us I tell people that ja-RED has a RED headed wife, while Jay-ROD is the cool one.

Such is the confusion of having two ministers with the same name! (And we just had a guy named Jerad join the church last week!)

Obviously Forbes list of richest people isn't quite long enough. If they extended it just a teensy bit farther, you'd find me. Maybe next year!
